Lympstone

Situated two miles from Exmouth, on the shores of the River Exe, the beautiful little village of Lympstone commands panoramic views over the Exe estuary and has its own small harbour, overlooked by historic Peter’s Tower. Being one of the larger East Devon villages, it has a primary school (the independent St Peter’s Preparatory school), a small supermarket, a village hall, four traditional pubs and a range of recreational facilities. The Exe Estuary Trail cycle path runs through the village, from Exmouth to Dawlish via Exeter, and the village train station is on the Avocet line, giving easy access to both Exmouth and Exeter. Lympstone Manor provides a fine dining experience from celebrity chef Michael Caines’ Michelin-starred restaurant. The most famous annual village event is the Lympstone ‘Furry Dance’, which is believed to date back over 150 years. It’s actually far more than just a dance, as it offers a whole day of local celebrations, with a long procession through the village, a variety of field events and some splendid fancy dress!

East Budleigh

Just two miles from Budleigh Salterton is the thriving and historic village of East Budleigh. The village has a primary school, a community shop, a village hall, a garage, a pub and recreational facilities. There is a regular bus service to Otterton, Budleigh Salterton, Exmouth, Sidmouth and Exeter. The village’s greatest claim to fame is that it was the birthplace of Sir Walter Raleigh – after whom the excellent pub is named. The village holds many events throughout the year, one of which is the East Budleigh Scarecrow Weekend. There are many walking paths to help you fully enjoy the countryside and take in the Devon air. Otterton

Situated three miles from Budleigh Salterton, Otterton is a picturesque village set within the unspoilt Otter Valley, with many flower-covered thatched cottages. Another popular East Devon village has a primary school, a community shop, a pub, recreational facilities and a historic working mill (Otterton Mill) which daily produces fresh bread from its bakery and is the perfect stopover for a tea, coffee, snack or meal from their charming café. Otterton Mill also offers a regular programme of special live music events. There is a regular bus service to East Budleigh, Budleigh Salterton, Exmouth, Sidmouth and Exeter. Surrounded by Devon’s rolling hills, there are many country walks nearby and one of the favourites is by the river Otter down to Otter Mouth in Budleigh Salterton. There is the small nearby beach at Ladram Bay. The village has fibre broadband services available.
